Foodakl features:
everything the photo calorie counter does
Foodakl is a food and calorie tracker for iPhone and Android that reads a photo of your meal: it names each dish on the plate, estimates its calories, protein, carbs and fat, and says how sure it is. Every feature below is marked Free or Premium.
What is free and what is Premium?
Foodakl is free to use, with no account and no card. Photo reading is part of Foodakl Premium: 7 days free, then $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year. The trial needs no card and doesn’t turn into a subscription on its own; when it ends, the app keeps working for free, without the photo reading.
A feature marked Free works without paying. A feature marked Premium is free for the first 7 days, then part of Foodakl Premium. The pricing page has the full comparison.

Logging food
Photo reading Premium
Photograph a meal and Foodakl names each item on the plate, sizes the portion and estimates its calories, protein, carbs and fat. Each reading says how sure it is (high, medium or low), and estimates are marked with a ~.
Import a photo you already took Premium
Pick a photo from your camera roll and Foodakl reads it and files the meal on the day the photo was taken. The original stays on your phone.
Two photos, one meal Premium
If you photograph a second dish in the same sitting, Foodakl offers to join it to the same meal. You can turn the offer off in More.
Menus and nutrition labels Premium
Photograph a restaurant menu and Foodakl estimates each dish before you order and shows how it sits against what is left of your day. Photograph a nutrition label and it reads the printed numbers, then asks how much you had.
Describe a meal Premium
Forgot to take a photo? Type what you ate in your own words, say when you ate it, and it is read the way a photo is. A described meal is less certain than a photographed one, and Foodakl says so.
A library of 2,900 dishes Free
Search 2,900 dishes and everyday foods from kitchens around the world, pick a portion and log it by name. The numbers are typical figures for a serving, and it works offline.
Your usuals Free
Foods you log more than once land in Your usuals by themselves, and one tap logs them again. Hold the camera button to open them.
Fix a food or portion Free
Tap a meal, then an item, to change the portion, rename it, split it in two or remove it, and the totals update at once. Corrections like these are free on every plan.
Follow-up questions Premium
When something matters and a photo can’t show it, like which meat it is or whether it was fried, Foodakl asks one question. Answer it, or add a detail in your own words, and the meal is read again.
Kitchen-scale mode Free
If you weigh your food, switch on I weigh my food in More, type the grams from your scale, and the item’s numbers scale to match. You can weigh the whole plate too, and each item takes its share.
Your food log Free
Every meal you log is kept as a list, a calendar or a gallery of photos, and you can search it by food name or by something you wrote in a note. Days you didn’t log are gaps, never zeros.
Share a plate Free
Turn a reading into one image, in portrait, story or square, made on your phone. It goes only where you send it.
Your body
Weight and trend Free
Log your weight in seconds and Foodakl draws a trend line from your weigh-ins, so one heavy morning doesn’t move it. Weight shows in kilograms or pounds, and you can tap any weigh-in to correct or remove it.
Journey and target weight Free
Set a target weight, or choose to hold steady or build muscle, and your trend becomes a journey: where you started, where you are and how far is left, with a rough estimate of when you could arrive. It is a rough direction, not an appointment.
Daily calorie and protein target Free
Foodakl works out a daily calorie and protein target on your phone, using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation with your height, age, body type, activity and the pace you choose, or you can type your own numbers. Carbs and fat take what is left, and guided targets are held above a sensible floor.
Eating and your weight Premium
Foodakl sets what you’ve eaten against what the scale actually did, and shows the pace you’re on, how far the target is and what your body seems to burn. It estimates when you could arrive as a range, not a date, because bodies don’t move in straight lines.
Progress photos Free
Take front or side photos with a faint outline of your last one to line up against, and play them back as a journey. They are never uploaded, never analysed and never in an export; only a backup you make carries them.
Movement and burn Free
Connect Apple Health or Health Connect and Foodakl shows your steps and active energy beside what you ate, or an estimate from a run or game you logged on a day nothing was measured. It is context, never a verdict, and it is never added to your target.
Training
Training is free in full: plans, timers, movements, cardio and sports.
Guided strength sessions Free
Pick a plan matched to your goal, make your own copy of one, or build a plan from nothing. Foodakl shows which workout is next and walks you through it one set at a time, with weights filled in from last time and a rest timer that runs itself.
700 movements with demonstrations Free
Every movement has a demonstration and how-to cues, and you can swap any of them for one that trains the same muscle with different kit. Hold a row in the picker to see how it’s done.
Your training history Free
Every session lands in a history with a calendar, the heaviest you’ve lifted on each movement and the total weight moved. A stone grows with each week you keep to your plan, and rest days never break it.
Cardio Free
Log a run, a walk, a hike, a treadmill session, a ride, an indoor bike session, rowing, the elliptical, stairs, a swim, jump rope or HIIT (12 kinds), on a running clock or afterwards. Foodakl estimates what it burned as a range, never adds that to your day’s target, and doesn’t track your route with GPS.
Sports Free
Log a game of football, basketball, volleyball, cricket, baseball, rugby, hockey, tennis, padel, badminton, squash, table tennis, pickleball, golf, boxing, martial arts, yoga, pilates, climbing, dance, skiing or surfing (22 sports) as a knock-about, a proper game or a match.
Add your own Free
If a sport, a kind of cardio or a strength movement isn’t on the lists, add your own, and it joins the grid or your plans like the built-in ones.
Habits
Water, fasting and supplements are free.
Water Free
Tap to add a glass. Choose the size of your glass and a daily target, or let the target follow your body weight at about 33 ml per kilo.
Fasting and Ramadan Free
Start a 16:8, 14:10 or 18:6 window, set your own, or choose a dawn-to-dusk Ramadan fast timed to your city’s sky. A month calendar shows each fast and your usual window, you can end a fast early whenever you like, and a reminder can tell you when it is over.
Supplements Free
Add anything you take daily, tap to tick each dose and hold to mark one skipped on purpose. A month calendar shows each day as a ring, and reminders ring at the time you set on each supplement.
Reminders Free
Nudges around your usual mealtimes and a weigh-in stay off until you turn them on, and they keep three rules: nothing before you’ve logged three days, nothing in your quiet hours, never more than two a day. Other reminders come only when something happens, such as the end of a fast you started, or at a time you chose yourself, like a supplement dose, which rings even in quiet hours.
Your numbers and insight
Your week in numbers is free. The coach’s written read, Ask your record and the Draw are Premium.
Day bars and consistency Free
See each week or month as bars against your daily target, and tap a day to open it. The consistency score measures whether you kept the record, not what you ate, and days you didn’t log are gaps, never zeros.
Micronutrients beneath the macros Free
See the week’s fibre, sugar, saturated fat and sodium, with caffeine and alcohol when drinks are logged. Where a published adult reference figure exists, it sits beside the number with its source, as something to read a number against, not a target and not a grade.
When you eat Free
Foodakl shows the hours you usually eat between, how long that window is and how much of your protein lands after 6pm. It describes the shape of your days and never suggests a dinner time.
The coach’s read Premium
Each week and month, Foodakl shows what is moving your numbers, such as weekends running heavier than weekdays, and how this period compares with the last. Premium adds the coach’s own written sentence, one suggestion from your record and a check the following week.
Ask your record Premium
Ask questions about your own log in plain words, like what you ate yesterday, and the answer is written from your meals, weight, training and water. Your phone does the arithmetic; simple sums are answered instantly for free, and open conversations are Premium and need a connection.
The Draw Premium
When you can’t decide what to eat, the Draw offers one idea that fits the room you have left in your day, from food you already eat or a kitchen you haven’t tried, and says why it fits. Keep ideas on a shelf, cook along with step-by-step recipes and build a shopping list.
Eating preferences Free
Set a pattern (vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian, halal or kosher), avoid things like pork, beef or alcohol, and list anything else you avoid or dislike. The Draw works within them; Foodakl filters what it offers and never checks what you ate.
Streaks, milestones and companions Free
A fire keeps your logging streak and a stone keeps your training weeks, and both are forgiving: one missed day in seven is covered, and rest days never break the stone. Milestones record what you did, such as meals logged and days in a row.
Notices Free
A running record of what happened to your plan and your record: a reading that finished, a backup, a milestone, a shared page, an idea that moved. It reports; it doesn’t grade.
Your data and privacy
The original photo stays on your phone. A smaller copy is sent to be read; Foodakl never stores it, and the service that reads it keeps requests for a limited time, only to detect abuse. Foodakl has no ads and doesn’t sell your data, and nothing you log is used to train AI.
Exports Free
Export everything as a CSV spreadsheet, as JSON, or as a PDF report of the last 30 days with charts for a coach or clinic. All three are free, and photos are left out on purpose.
Backup and restore Free
Back up your whole record, photos included, to a folder you choose on Android or to one zip file on iPhone, then restore it on a new phone. An optional account adds an automatic, encrypted backup of your numbers; its key is a recovery code only you hold, and photos aren’t part of it.
Storage and old photos Free
See what Foodakl holds on your phone and how much space each part uses, and choose to let older photos go while every reading, weight and number stays.
Delete everything Free
One action in More clears every meal, photo, weigh-in and log from your phone, and you hold the button to confirm because it can’t be undone. Deleting a Foodakl account is a separate step that removes your email address, backups and board posts from our server.
A private page for your coach Premium
Share a private, read-only page of your last month, with no photos, with a coach or dietitian. The link expires within 30 days, and you can switch off every live link at any time.
Everywhere you are
16 languages Free
Foodakl speaks English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Indonesian, Turkish, Russian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified) and Chinese (Traditional). Arabic and Urdu read right to left.
iPhone, iPad and Android Free
Foodakl runs on iPhone and Android phones, and on iPad and Android tablets. You get it from the App Store or Google Play.
Works offline Free
Your record lives on your phone, so you can log without a connection. Photos you take and meals you describe while offline are saved and read when the signal returns.
Apple Health and Health Connect Free
Choose what to share: meals, water and weigh-ins can go out, and steps, active energy and scale weigh-ins can come back in. Each direction is a separate switch, and all of them start off.
Android widgets Free
Nine home-screen widgets show your day, today’s numbers, water, streak, fasting, weight, macros and supplements, plus a snap shortcut, and some act: log a glass, tick a supplement or start a fast without opening the app. Widgets are Android only.
Suggestion Box Free
Post an idea for the app and vote on other people’s, without your name attached, and the app tells you when yours moves. It needs an account, which is one email address and no password.
Light, dark and calm motion Free
Choose light, dark or your phone’s setting. Foodakl follows your phone’s text size, and Calm motion holds the animations still.
