The short version
Foodakl estimates what is in your food from a photograph — or, for a meal you have already eaten, from your own description of it — and keeps the record on your phone. The numbers are estimates, not measurements, and this is not medical advice. Premium is a subscription through your app store; the free tier keeps working forever and never holds your data. If something goes wrong, tell us — a person answers.
The numbers are estimates
Every figure Foodakl produces is inferred from an image by automated analysis — machine-vision systems that are good, and wrong sometimes, like all of their kind. A photograph cannot see the oil absorbed in a pan, the sugar dissolved in a sauce, or what is underneath the top layer. A clear photo of a simple plate is usually within roughly ten to twenty per cent; mixed, fried and sauced dishes are less accurate than that. A meal you describe instead of photographing is estimated from your words alone, and is less certain again: the reading knows only what you said, and an amount you did not state is taken to be an ordinary serving. It says where each figure came from, so you can weigh it accordingly. Use Foodakl to see patterns across weeks, which is what it is good at. Do not use it where a precise figure matters medically.
This is not medical advice
Foodakl is an informational tool, not a medical device, and nothing in it constitutes medical, clinical, nutritional or healthcare advice, diagnosis or treatment. It does not know your medical history and cannot account for it. Never dose medication from a Foodakl estimate — insulin included: a carbohydrate figure read from a photograph or from a description is not accurate enough to dose against, and was never meant to be. If you are pregnant, managing diabetes or any other condition affected by intake, recovering from or living with an eating disorder, or under medical supervision of any kind, speak to a qualified professional before acting on anything you read here — and never set aside or delay their advice because of something this app displayed. Feel free to take the PDF export along to that conversation. Decisions you make about what you eat remain yours.
Allergies
The camera cannot see inside a sauce, and neither can we. A reading may miss an ingredient entirely; a catalogue dish, a recipe or a menu estimate may not list every ingredient a kitchen actually used. If you have a food allergy or an intolerance, the only things to trust are the kitchen you ask and the label you read — never an estimate from a photograph or from a description. Checking what you eat before you eat it remains entirely your responsibility.
A floor under the maths
Foodakl is built for eating well, not for eating as little as possible. The app will not prescribe a calorie target below a floor no adult should sit under, whatever the arithmetic asks, and it says so when that happens. It states facts about weight targets below the commonly referenced healthy range, once, without argument — and then respects your choices, because they are yours. If tracking food makes eating harder for you rather than easier, please put the app down; it will not take offence, and something built with professional involvement will serve you better.
What you are agreeing to
That you are an adult — eighteen or over, and old enough to enter this agreement where you live. Foodakl computes adult targets and is not designed for anyone younger. That the information you enter is your own. That you will not attempt to break, overload or automate access to the service, resell it, or use it to assemble a competing dataset. Daily limits exist because every reading costs us money to produce; working around them is the one thing that would force us to become stricter with everybody.
Your content stays yours
Your photos, your notes and your record belong to you — full stop. We take no ownership and no broad licence over any of it. The only permissions you grant us are the narrow ones the work actually needs: to process a reduced copy of a photo for the seconds an analysis takes; to process the summaries of your record behind Ask your record and the written read of your week; with an account, to hold the encrypted backups you make and to show what you post on the suggestion board to the other people who open it; and — only when you create a share link — to host the report you chose to share for as long as you leave it live. Nothing you record is used to train anything, sold to anyone, or kept by us beyond what the privacy policy describes, including how long the analysis service keeps a request to detect abuse.
Premium, and how billing works
Premium is sold as an auto-renewing subscription through the Apple App Store or Google Play, at the price shown in your currency before you confirm. Payment is taken by the store, not by us — we never see your card. It renews automatically at the same price at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Cancel any time in your store account's subscription settings; Premium then runs out the period you have already paid for and stops. Refunds are handled by the store under its own policy, though if something has gone wrong, write to us first and we will usually sort it out faster.
The free trial
Seven days of Premium, once per device, with no payment details taken. It begins when you finish setting the app up — that is what these terms are shown before, so that nothing starts without you having read what it is. It does not convert into a paid subscription by itself and there is nothing to remember to cancel: it simply ends, and you continue free with everything you logged intact. If you choose to subscribe during or after it, the subscription terms above apply from that point.
Invitations and codes
Foodakl may give you days of Premium you did not pay for — for inviting a friend who joins and uses the app, for entering a code we published, or because we chose to. Those days buy exactly what a subscription buys, the readings that cost us money, and nothing else; when they end, everything you recorded stays yours. A week for each friend who signs in and reads their plates over their first days, up to six a year, and an invitation can be used only in an account’s first two weeks. Days are not money, cannot be sold, moved or refunded, and we may withdraw days obtained by pretending to be more than one person. When an invitation is used we keep a one-way record that your address used one, so it cannot be used twice; it cannot be turned back into your address and it is kept after your account is deleted.
Your record, and what free keeps
Subscribed, lapsed, or never paid anything: every photo, meal, correction, weigh-in and chart stays on your device and stays readable, along with all three exports. A subscription buys new work that costs us money to perform — it never buys access to what you have already recorded. Because your record lives on your phone, we cannot recover it for you if the device is lost or reset — but you can: More → Your record → Back up writes a complete copy, photos included, into a folder you choose, and Restore reads it back on any phone. That backup lives in your storage, not ours; keeping one is your call and your safety net. An optional account recovers your numbers on a new phone, but never the photographs, so it is not a substitute for a backup.
What happens if you uninstall Foodakl
Everything goes with it. Your record lives in the app's own storage on your phone, so uninstalling deletes every meal, photo, weigh-in, workout and correction, permanently and immediately. Reinstalling gives you a new, empty app. This is the same thing that happens if you clear the app's data from your phone's settings. There are two ways to make that survivable, and both are yours to choose: A BACKUP — More → Your record → Back up — writes a complete copy, photographs included, into a folder you pick. Restore reads it back on any phone. AN ACCOUNT — More → Account and sharing — keeps an encrypted copy of your numbers on our server so a new phone can find them with your email and recovery code. It does not include the photographs — no photograph is ever part of an account backup, and a backup file is the only thing that carries them. Neither is required and the app works fully without both. But if you have logged anything you would be sorry to lose, do one of them today rather than the day you need it.
Share links you create
You can publish a read-only page of your recent record for someone helping you — a dietitian, a coach, a doctor. Creating one is always your deliberate act. The page carries your numbers, food names and notes, never your photos; the link expires by itself within thirty days at most; and More → Your record → Switch off every live link kills anything you have shared, immediately. A link is exactly as private as the people you hand it to, so hand it wisely.
The suggestion board
The app has a board where you can suggest what Foodakl should do next and vote on what other people have suggested. It is for ideas, not for support — something broken belongs in an email to us, where a person will read it. What you write there is shown publicly to other people who use the app, without your name or your email attached: the board carries no author on any post or vote, and it never will. Do not put anything on it you would not put on a noticeboard, and do not put anyone else's personal details on it at all. Every submission is screened before it appears, and one that is abusive, promotional, off-topic or carries personal details does not go up. If something gets past that, Report on any post sends it to us and a person reads it, and Hide takes it off your own board immediately; we may remove any post from the board for everybody. You can take back your own idea while it is still yours to take. An idea marked planned, building, shipped or declined is something we have heard — a ranking is not a promise, and posting one gives you no claim over what we build.
Other services, their terms
Some things happen outside Foodakl, under someone else's roof and rules. Billing runs through your app store, under its terms. Health-store sharing happens with your permission, under your phone's controls. Anything you export or share leaves through apps you choose, which handle it under their own policies. We are responsible for Foodakl; we cannot be responsible for what other services do once you pass something to them.
What we cannot promise
Foodakl is provided as it is and as it happens to be available. We work to keep it running, accurate and improving, but we do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or correct in any particular instance, and we make no implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. Features may change as the app develops. If we ever discontinue it, we will give notice and the export will keep working so you can take your record with you.
Limits of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Foodakl is not liable for decisions made on the basis of its estimates, nor for indirect, incidental or consequential loss. Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, it is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here removes rights you hold under the consumer law where you live — those apply regardless of anything written above.
Ending it
You can stop using Foodakl at any time, and delete everything from More → Your record → Delete everything. That removes it from the device permanently, and if you never signed in there is no other copy of your log for us to hold. If you linked an account, delete that too — More → Account and sharing → Delete account — which removes your email address, your backups and your board posts from our server. We may suspend access in the rare case of deliberate abuse of the service, and would tell you why.
Changes to these terms
If we change anything of substance we will show you the new version in the app and ask again, rather than relying on a quiet update to a page nobody visits. Continuing to use Foodakl after that means the new terms apply.
